Who is a Good Candidate for Dentures?
In general, an adult can qualify for dentures if they have decent oral health. The only other big treatment requirement is that you suffer tooth loss. However, not every patient with missing teeth is a good candidate for dentures. Someone who still has a tooth or two along an arch will benefit more from a different restoration. Similarly, a patient with unhealthy gum and jaw tissues can’t support a denture.
Given these truths, please consult us first to learn if dentures suit you. We’ll perform an oral exam to see if your smile would benefit from the devices. Based on our findings, we can then draft a custom treatment plan for you.
Types of Dentures
Depending on your oral exam, our team may suggest one of three dentures. These three types are:
Partial Dentures
Per its name, a partial denture only replaces a few teeth at most. That means it fits over the gumline with suction or clasps onto nearby natural teeth (i.e., abutments). Once it’s in place, the device uses its pink acrylic base and color-matched teeth to blend in with your smile.
Full Dentures
Unlike a partial denture, a full one replaces an entire arch of teeth at once. It doesn’t use clasps to stay in place; it can only rely on suction force or store-bought adhesives. That said, it’s still custom-fitted to sit snugly over your gums and blend seamlessly with your mouth.
Implant Dentures
If you need a more permanent restoration, you should seriously look into implant dentures. These kinds secure themselves with dental implants – posts that fuse with your jawbone. For that reason, they remain stable and won’t slip or fall from your mouth like other dentures can. You can also count on them to work for years with proper care.
The Benefits of Dentures
The benefits of our practice’s dentures include the following:
- A Lifelike Grin – Thanks to their quality materials, today’s dentures look beautiful and lifelike. They’ll blend well with your smile and enhance your good looks!
- High Confidence – Dentures boost your confidence by restoring your grin. Since they eliminate your “smile gaps,” they help you feel self-assured in your looks, speech, eating ability, etc.
- Better Nutrition – Dentures improve your nutrition and physical health by giving you teeth that help you chew more food.
- Cost-Effective Care – Compared to other oral prosthetics, dentures don't cost as much and work well. They’re pretty ideal if you have limited funds.
